I ask you : Would it be any better if the driver pulled out a flask and said "Oh, I just need a nip of whisky to settle my nerves" before setting out on the road? Driving a big rig is hard work, and the driver has to know what's going on at all times. If you're suffering from anything that requres that kind of 'medication' you shouldn't be behind the wheel.
This is Vancouver. It goes on more than you know.
Have you ever worked in construction?
Lots of people bring their addictions to work with them, whether it be caffiene, nicotine, alcohol, or marijuana.

I do not think it would be 'any better' if he were drinking, as alcohol is a depressant (vs marijuana being a mild hallucinogen). However, if I had to ride in a car with a raging alcoholic who was sober and shaking, I would almost prefer he have 'just a nip' before negotiating traffic.

Now I'm really just playing devils advocate.
I couldn't do my job high, but some people can.
