Why do you ask?

I've helped at a number of events, usually either doing tech support or organizing the finish line. I've sponsored a mountain bike race. I've never personally chaired a major event. I don't mind helping out but I'm not willing at this stage of my life to turn my hobby into another job.

Triathalon or mountain bike finish lines can be stressful. You're concentrating on getting the numbers and times right for each finisher as they come in and you get somebody in your face who finished 3 minutes ago and who has a question that he wants answered RIGHT NOW. I had to call the security cop on one guy. I had another guy who, it turned out, was himself an off duty cop. That's a lot of abuse to take for something that you're doing out of the kindness of your heart.
