I remember somebody asked about goin from philly to nyc a couple months ago, I'd advise against route 1 cause even though the speed limit is 55 by me, people drive upwards of 70-75 and shoulder's disappear as fast as they appear.

I've riden up and down Route 27 from Edison to Princeton which basically runs along Route 1, not too bad, cars drive around 35-40, not much of a shoulder but people give you room.
