No wave ....(Sob)

Early Saturday morning, I was out for a 50 mile ride in the countryside, and, for a change, I decided to ride my (winter) bike, a Giant MTB with semi-slicks. Its nice sometimes not to worry about pot-holes so much!

Anyway, when I ride my Road bikes, 90% of the time a get a brief wave from riders coming from the other direction (even if its a barely perceptable movement of the fingers), and I reciprocate. This time, 3 roadies came from the other direction, I extended my right hand briefly, and from my peripheral vision I saw....no wave, not even a flinch.

Anyone else encounter this? Are us roadies supposed to ignore MTB riders on the road?
