I have an opposite story. I have now broken two spokes on my Somax front wheel that's a year and a half old. After paying my LBS to fix it the first time, it happened again, so the owner e-mailed Soma. The rep who e-mailed back said basically there were known issues with the wheels from that era (cheapo spokes) but they would do nothing since it's now out of warranty. After I picked the wheel up yesterday (she charged me almost nothing the second time) she said if it happened again she would rebuild the wheel for me for free as long as I covered the cost of the spokes.

This place does repairs on an appointment basis. You bring it in on the day the work is to be done and 9 times out of 10 it's done by the end of business. If it's not, they call. If it's ready, they still call.

Basically the place rocks. If I mention I'm looking for a specific part they'll dig through the bins and often set stuff aside for me with no deposit.

As far as the tone of the original post goes, I don't typically go into any shop and say "I could buy X at Y shop but I'd rather spend my money here." I'm a total cheapskate, but I'm paying list price for the Cross Check frame I'm building up. I'm also getting the hookup on some nice used parts that I would pay a lot more for if I were to try to get them from another source along with some solid advice and help with my build. They'll also have my back with any warranty claims. If I just want stuff there's any number of places I could go, but if I want real service it's a pretty easy choice.
