I have one of those Park chain cleaners that I never really like, mostly because they are just messy. But last week I finally figured out the best way to use one. I took the chain off the bike and looped it through the cleaner, filled with Simple Green. Then I just pulled the chain through it with my hand about 60 times until it was perfectly clean. I had always tried to use the cleaner with the chain on the bike.
Since I knew I wanted to take a photo of that area, I kept the lube off and cleaned it up really well. I spent years photographing national cosmetic ads so I know how to make things look pretty.

I thought it would look good when I did it; but it's OK, I guess. I had the blue tape already. When it's worn down I'll put some red tape on there. The bike just ended up being blue with red things. My specialized saddle has red trim and the tires were on sale. So now it's all red. I really wanted the orange Fierte so I had already bought Cinelli bar tape in orange. I don't think that would look good, but at some point I need an orange bike.
