I'm getting a Rohloff in the next couple of days, and I'm hanging it on a La Raza. I'm going to have a single, 52 tooth, front ring. I went to Sheldon's site and looked up the gear ratios. Thing is, I've always been a pick a ring in the front, trim it out in the back, who cares what the numbers are, kind of rider.

So, here are my simplistic questions: How is my top gear going to stack up to an "off the rack" road bike? Is it going to be taller, shorter? Same question for the bottom gear. And my third and final question (which ought might be my first), I'm not real sure how to word. Will I have a larger "gear range" (I think that is the right phrase) than a regular road bike? I know the actual answer is ride the thing and find out, but thanks in advance for letting me ask.
