When I had my bike stolen a year ago, the cops told me that thieves in New York ride around residential neighborhoods in cargo vans in the middle of the night when no one's around, they have bolt cutters and just go from wrought iron fence to wrought iron fence fence snapping locks and throwing whole bikes in the backs of their vans. That's what happened to me - I got sloppy and it got stolen in the middle of the night.
Of course, that cop could have been lying.
well, if anyone knows anything about stealing bikes, it'd be the NYPD...
