There are reasons why parades require permits. BTW has anyone heard of a parade permit being issued for RUSH HOUR? Of course not, they get issued for times when a parade makes sense.
There is a political point to CM--even to bikes in general--that many cyclists do not agree with. Briefly, this has to do with the idea that bikes are a more sane and practical mode of transportation than private automobiles. More people should be riding them, ESPECIALLY during rush hour. And one way to demonstrate this point is to show motorists a large number of people actually riding bikes
on busy streets. Again, the bikes do not cause the traffic jams, the cars do--even during a CM ride. Bikes are not the problem, they're part of the solution.
Do you know of any case where an "innocent" cyclist was harrassed or bullied because somebody was ticked off about CM?
