Nothing is bombproof. I would not suggest Steeker go out and put a 350 gm Look HSC fork on his bike, but a carbon cross fork is more than strong enough to support a man of his....how should I put this.... somewhat stout carriage. Another overlooked factor is riding style. Some folks ride very quietly and smooth....others ride like a sack o potatoes. Very early on I bent all kinds of fork steerers on my early mountain bikes. This was a result of my flying off staircases and landing with both wheels at the same time. Resulting splay of the forks showed me the error of my ways. Any good quality fork from a reputable manufacturer will be fine for all but the most brutish riders.
