Rode our singles on Saturday. On Sunday we pulled out the tandem and took off from Carmel in thick, dripping fog that stayed with us all the way north through Castroville and the rollers of the Elkhorn Slough backcountry to the Pajaro River. Soon after, we stopped at sunny Gizdich Ranch to pull off our outer layers and enjoy some fresh baked pie and ice cream. After that, we headed up the redwood shaded Hazel Dell climb, descended to Corralitos, then climbed Eureka Canyon into the Santa Cruz mountain high country. It was gloriously warm and sunny in the hills, but soon we had to descend back to the cooler climate near the beach (where we made our second stop of the ride - at Surf City Coffee). From there, it was a pleasant spin back to Carmel along the coast. Total distance; 127 miles.
