Also, maintanence is a part of the cost of the bike. Just like if you have enough dough to buy a car but can't afford insurance, or gas, or tires for a car, you can't afford the car. Period.

If you can't afford to pay to have a mechanic fix your bike, or even cheaper, buy tools to fix your bike yourself, then you can't afford your bike.

Sort of like people who buy houses but can't afford the taxes.

It all adds up to one phase: Cost of Ownership

Less than $100 for tools is pretty much a one-time cost (unless you are breaking or losing stuff) that will last you for years and years. Sounds like a good deal to me when I know that I can't get a mech at a bike shop to cast a shadow on a bike for less than $20.
