Ah, the eternal debate... Yes, you burn a higher % of calories from fat, but you burn more total calories, from both fat and glycogen, if you ride shorter distances at higher intensities, and boost your base metabloic rate more. This is what my Dr. and most exercise physiologists I've asked/read say.
