I've been using them for years. I've gotten them on Mavic Open Pro's, Velocity Aerohead and Campy Eurus rims. Never had a tire blow off during inflation. I didn't think they were all that hard to get on, even on my Eurus rims (and Campy rims are infamous for being impossible to mount). Are you using the wire-bead version or the fold-able version? I always use the foldable version because they're easier to store.
