One issue may be getting tools to work on it. My two bikes are early 80's vintage. I bought the tools for BB and the freewheel back in the 80's. I was recently at a Trek superstore buying cable and a guy looked at the bike and said "we don't even have the tools for it."

Further conversation revealed that they did not have the BB tool, and thought they were not available any more.

This is typical of the issues old bike owners face when taking a bike into a shop today. The tools themselves may be "vintage."
