A little off-topic, but Jerry Lewis movies were considered very high art in France, a fact which has always been a source of much smirking in North America. However, I have a theory as to why it is this way. He does some brilliant visual comedy, but for most of us, as anglophones, he spoils it with incredibly annoying, stupid voices. The French can ignore his voice and read the subtitles or hear it dubbed, so they can appreciate the artistry without that distraction.
