Armstrong claimed he had a wheel rubbing his brakepad in the Alpe d'Huez stage in the '03 TdF.

As far as FL's bike change, it was on Col de la Colombière. the best bit was his primal scream of GO! to the mechanic when he was getting his push (the wrench was a tad slow to push ).

a day later and i'm still amazed.

You know he hasn't had a very good mechanical tour and if he some how doesn't win I would almost blame it on mechanicals. He was late to the Prologue and lost like 8-10 sec because of a prerace flat...his bars broke and maybe also had a flat in the first TT, he has had another flat or two in the regular stages and now this...it HAS to have cost him on the order of 1:30 total to this point and that doesn't include the flats where he got back with the group.

Edit: I mean thinking back isn't the story that Lance in 7 years never had a flat? And I believe the only mechanical he had was a broken chain stay that he rode to thefinish on anyway.
