New record for falling from clipless pedals?

I think more than any other cyclist, i've overstayed my days on platforms. I haven't even tried toeclips. I have SPD's with wide platforms on my mountain bike, but I never liked my shoes much, so I never learned to use them. I've been commuting on a bike for years, and with a recent road bike purchase and 20% sale by Nashbar, I decided to try clipless pedals again:

Ok, so I read the beginner threads. I practiced indoors for about 10 minutes until I could unclip easily and clip in 1-5 tries. I considered practicing on the grass, but it was too muddy out. So I just went for a ride. 10 minutes of riding, and things were going great. I was enjoying things so much, I had completely forgotten I was still attached to the bike when I had to stop for the first time. That was fall 1.

Fall 2: Went to stop on a hill, unclipped one side, didn't think about leaning, leaned the wrong way.

Fall 3: Trying to start on the same hill, I clipped my right foot in, pushed off with my left foot, and then put my left foot on the pedal and gingerly pushed to maintain momentum, thinking I wasn't clipped in yet. When I realized I didn't have the momentum to balance, I leaned over to push off with my left foot again, only to realize my left foot was now also attached to the bike.

I packed it in after that. 3 falls in about 3 miles. Guess it takes me more than 10 minutes to undo years of platform riding habits.
