After being a long time mountain biker, I finally got on the road last summer. Last February, I was diagnosed with pretty extreme hypertension. Turns out 10 years of nightcaps didn't make my liver all too happy and as the doc put it, my liver was killing me. Doc immediately said that riding and running was completely out of the question and that, as bad as the damage was, he was doubtful that I'd ever be able to safely ride or run again. Well, with a lot of research and work, the liver's all healed up and my blood pressure is dropping. And, although its nowhere near normal without meds, it's getting better and better. At my appt today I asked the doc about cycling and he said that he didn't have a problem with it, as long as I didn't hit it too hard. Within an hour after leaving his office, I was back on the road and man, it felt awesome. Feels like I dodged a bullet and life is good. It's good to be back.
