I agree. For saftey reasons, it is a good idea for a cyclist to know what is in front and what is behind you. He passed you while riding somewhat faster than you, so he expected you to be out of his saftey zone fairly quickly. He may have been suprised that you were still so close, creating a saftey issue that he was not aware of.
