Is barrel adjustment used for each gear position? Let me put it this way, say if I down shift from 7th to 6th but when I do this its a real hard and fast shift. Correct me if Im wrong but my understanding is that the barrel adjust is to let out tension from the cable. So with that in mind, if there is alot of tension would lead to a hard fast shift. I have a 24 speed bike. The situation Im speaking of, is when Im on the middle chain wheel in front and down shifting from 7th to 6th. It is still pretty hard and fast when the chain whell is on the largest wheel but not has harsh. Thanks for any help or advice!!!!!

Since Im here, when adjusting the front derailer the first chain wheel what cog should the chain be on. Vise-Versa for the large chain wheel.
