My friend Greg and I met up at 9 this morning to do a leisurely ride out to Gatineau Park. Ride went well enough if you discount the fact that we had to ride over Quebec's crappy excuses for roads. On the way home, we decide to stop over in the west section of town where the local Cervelo dealership is. We walk in, an lo and behold, there's a brand new R3 hanging from the rafters.
After shooting the ***** with one of the mechanics, I ask if they'd swap the pedals from my Cannondale over to the Cervelo for a short trip around the block. I knew they weren't going to let me go very far, but I wanted to be able to say I got to ride an R3. Being as vain as I am, I knew that just telling people I rode one wasn't going to be good enough. The funny thing is that I purposefully left my camera at home this morning thinking there'd be nothing worthwhile in bringing it, so Greg and I rode back to my place, grabbed my camera and headed back to the shop.
Like I said, I only did a few laps around the block, but this thing is frickin' sweet. It floats over everything on the road and all the little things that would make their way through my Cannondale's frame into my body were muted by the R3. I accidentally hit a pothole that would have shaken my fillings loose on the 'Dale, but the R3 wasn't phased. The huge bottom bracket cluster and the Ksyrium ES wheels made this thing a dream to sprint with and the DA10 felt so refined and crisp compared to my 105/Ultegra 9-speed mix.
