Who cares if their BB or any other component of their bike is not "compatible with most bikes higher up the food chain"? What difference would it make to any typical user of a relatively inexpensive bike?

The one piece crank that came on my 1950's Schwinn balloon tired knee action bike never caused a bit of problem in the 25 years I used it. Didn't bother me in the slightest that it wasn't interchangeable with someone else's Madrone.
