I, too, replaced wheels and brakes really quick. I've also done a nine-speed upgrade, so I'm running nearly a complete Tiagra group (front and rear derailleurs, brakes, brifters, and hubs).
People harsh on the 1000 too much, but it's a good value for the money. A nice bike. And I get SO MANY compliments on the color scheme.
Was the 9 speed worth it? I am fine with the 8 speed, didn't think it would be a huge improvement. I may eventually swap the cassette and brifters out for th extra gear.
