I haer ya, I feel the pressure all the time. Today was my first time back on my road bike for a month after an injury, I was told I could get back but to not go clipless for another month till completely healed. I felt very self concious riding with running shoes and the old strapped on pedal, must have been in my mind only cause almost every cyclists I crossed either told me good luck with your injury, or good job for being out there ( I have a cast on the lower part of my leg) once I forgot how unfashioned I looked, I really had one nice ride..
