[QUOTE=PhilThee]If your sold on the Motor oil you might try using a few from the list below. The reason being that most all of todays pass car oil's lack the ZDDP (Zinc & phosphrus) & moly anti wear additives of the past that were crucial to protecting flat tappet cams. The anti wear additives were removed because they prematurly clogged cat converters and also polluted a little more too.Alos most of todays engines have roller cam valvetrains which don't have a lot of friction compared to a flat tappet setup.
The list below have more anti wear additives.
If you have an old V8 Chevy, Ford, or Chrysler with a flat tappet cam then these are the oils you need to be using.
CHEVRON DELO 400 15W-40
CHEVRON RPM 15W-40
SHELL ROTELLA T 15W-40
ALL REDLINE SYNTHETIC MOTOR OILS.
VALVOLINE SYNPOWER OILS
VALVOLINE MAX LIFE 5W-30
VALVOLINE RACING R1 20W-50(NOT VALVOLINE RACING 20W-50 WITHOUT THE "R1" ON THE LABEL OR STD PASS CAR 20W-50)
TEXACO HAVOILINE 15W-40
ROYAL PURPLE 10W-30/10W-40
PENNZOIL 15W-50 (SPECIFICALLY THE "API-SJ/CH-4" RATED OIL)
MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC OILS.
If you really want to go overboard then you could go to the Service Department at your local GM Dealership and get some "EOS"...... GOOOOD STUFF!
I don't think it's as thick as bar lube but it has more protection than the oils I mentioned above.[/QUOTE
I talked a bike mech. he said motor oil is the worst thing you can use because it attracts everything dirt hair. Said it will ruin a chain in no time flat.
