Have him carry a spare tube/pump and do his own flat changing. Bet he'll be more careful on where he rides! Then he can patch it himself at home.
Does he ride pavement? Or dirt? Tell him to watch where he's riding and avoid debris on the pavement. Ride further away from gutter/curb/edge of road.
New (properly installed) rim tape could help.
