I'm using specialized and performance branded tubes, I had a few stem failures with my first set of specialized tubes, but I was turning down the nut on the stem too hard, now I just keep it barely even finger tight, just to keep the valve from being pushed into the rim when I attach a pump.
I could use some new rim tape, now that I think of it. I recently upgraded my wheelset to Aksiums from the stock XSR-4s, and I can see where the rim tape has been dimpled by pressure of the tubes into the spoke holes, so that could indicate I need new tape... Is it possible to use some type of washer to avoid direct contact of the valve stem with the drilled aluminum? I'm gonna have a nice trip down to MEC (like REI) tomorrow
