I don't hate it when people suggest this. It's good to consider all options but there is more to a bike than just components.
I really had a good experience with BD. I bought an aluminum frameset with carbon stays, thinking that in a few months I would replace it with something else, but was surprised to find the frame functional, at least. It's stiff without being too harsh, and really responds when you crank the crank.
So, it's my opinion that you shouldn't write off the bikedirect framesets so quickly.
