IMHO - most recreational riders do not need expensive high tech recovery drinks. Anything that gives you a shot of carbs and maybe some protien and is easy to digest will be fine. If you're really tired after a long ride, then some foods may be hard to digest; so you need to experiment to figure out what works for you. Some old favorites include chocolate milk, clam chowder, and chicken soup. If you're on the road, something that needs refigeration or cooking may not work for you.
