I think people have been expecting the electric car to be the magical answer. When in truth only reduced usage of resources is the answer. I took an environmental science class when I was young and impressionable, and of course the electric vehicle was brought up. I think most people don't think twice about resources, they just assume that some day they'll be driving an electric or hydrogen powered vehicle, but not until "everybody" else does.
