Always a good idea to see a doctor when something like this flares up. I know I've had similar problems in the past with pain/discomfort behind the knee. It was usually due to my seat being too high and over extending the leg. For what it's worth I lowered the seat and continued riding at a less stressful pace and within a week to 10 days the situation got better. I hope you find a quick solution.
