Since you took a 27x1 1/4 tire off, maybe it would be a good idea to verify what size the rim really is. If you stretch a tape measure around the bead seat, you should get 1978mm for a 27 inch wheel, and 1955mm for a 700c wheel. I got these numbers from: http://www.bikecult.com/works/wheelsizes.html
