I'm a roadie, and, I've found out that life and riding a bike can be beautiful without a front derailleur.
I have no use for 'em, or the attendent shifter, cable, etc. Just rip it off, pic a chain ring you like and use the rear derailleur, only. Get rid of the excess. Be less encumbered. Be free.
