I've been using a thin cable that I run thru my helmet and my quik-release seat. Granted, you could easily cut thru it with pliers, but I doubt anyone would want your stinky helmet anyway. I feel that it gives just enough protection to keep kids from running off with it for fun (which they would do if it were loose), and with the bike parked in a public spot, has been safe for me so far.
