What rim/wheel to buy? Help!

I need to replace my Sunrim CR-17 rear rim cuz it won't true anymore. My local bike shop says i might as well buy a new wheel for the price it would cost to replace all the parts from my old wheel to whatever new rim i get. Should i buy a rim and try to do it myself? Should i just buy a new wheel? Should i buy a new set of wheels (5000+ miles on them now)?

If i buy a new wheel, how many spokes should i get? I want a durable wheel that won't keep going out of true everytime i might happen to jump a little curb... I have a 1997 (?) Cannondale T-2000 with 130 or 135 mm hubs, rims are 700c. I would also like a narrow rim to reduce rolling resistance (I use the bike for riding with racers, too).

Can anyone recommend something for me? Thank you!
