New VIIIH owner here. I just got the bike last week, and I'm very pleased so far. I looked at Dahons and Bike Fridays, but the DT is by far the better deal.

I'm no tekkie by any stretch, but after only a few rides, I have the same minor gripes to report as others: grips could use an upgrade, shifter is a bit stiff, and the gearing is too tall for me (and yes, part of the problem is that I am WAY out of shape ). That said, my gripes are minor, and far outweighed by the positives.

Some questions for the group:

My sensitive *ahem* "undercarriage" needs all the help it can get. I'm thinking of installing either a Thudbuster or Schwalbe Big Apple tires, at least in the (unsuspended) rear. Has anybody done either mod? If somebody replaced the tire(s), which size (or sizes, if you used different tires front and rear) Big Apple did you install? The Big Apples come in two diameters, 2.00 and 2.35. I'm thinking 2.35 might be too much even for the rear rim (current Kenda is 1.75), but would appreciate feedback from others. Do the BA's really make a difference in the ride over the Kendas?

Any suggestions for replacement grips?

Finally, dumb newbie question: Is the saddle adjustable front-to-back? Right now my riding position seems a couple of inches too far rearward. It didn't look like the saddle is mounted on a sliding track, but maybe I'm missing something.
