Cool, good tip. I'm 160-170 lbs myself, but sometimes carry 30-40 lbs of cargo. I never thought about it, but tread could very well help to prevent flats... not only by providing extra rubber but also by providing spaces in between the knobs for sharp objects to get pushed harmlessly. Hmm.
