The exact same thing happened to me last year! Well, not exactly, but I was riding over the Williamsburg and a ped stepped directly in front of me and sent me flying...I landed on my head/knees and it was really unplesant. Lots of people stopped, though (including the guy I hit) to help me out, which was really nice.

I didn't get roughed up as badly as you did, but my knees were pretty messed up for a while and the right one still aches every now and then. So watch out for your knees, I rode home from the accident and kept riding the next day, so I don't think I healed properly.
