To me I never really found it to be too flexy, but reading all the stuff about CF bikes, and looking at testing data made me think there's something to the stiffness of a good CF, particularly for crit racing. Mostly just wanted something new, after 8 years.

Personally I think the Extralight is still a great bike for long rides, and probably even road racing, but I wouldn't think of it as a first choice for a crit. It is not a tremendously quick handling bike, and objectively it is more flexible than a stiff CF frame ( in both a good and a bad way).
