How about LFD?
That's right. Long FAST distance. Nearly all of my training rides have been Long Fast Distance or at least medium fast. Why bother to train slow? I did a max of a 50 mile ride before my MS150 this weekend. I rode my long rides at my normal training pace ie. medium-fast to just plain fast. Some rides were with other who were faster than me, so I got pushed harder than I can normally go.
Not all of my rides could be completed at the same fast speed, but I did push myself to exhaustion. I think this would help me improve faster than doing slow rides. Anyone else do LFDs? What is the rationale to go slow? Is it just to complete an otherwise impossible distance?
Consequently I was able to do back to back 78 mile rides as fast as my 30 mile rides with no indiviudal rides longer than 50 miles.
