Well that is what my original question was about.....
Are you able, with a compact rather than a conventional double, to use more of the cassette ?

Thanks for the advice re: the 48t but I don't want to lose any high gears either......
If I were to get strong enough I would think about running a 52/36 in the front with the same cassette..
