Very slow going, but exhilarating nonetheless. I just want to comment that I ride clipless but when it gets a bit heavy with traffic with lots of stopping, I ride with my right foot unclipped, this way I can plant it at a moments notice if need be. I wonder if anyone else does this.
in NYC traffic i'm always clipped in until i come to a complete stop then i balance and unclip quickly. within a few weeks you'll be doing the same. or maybe your pedals are set too tight, you should be able to unclip with a quick turn of the foot.
