I just now realized that I am probably the reason for this guy's rant and I find it pretty funny. Now this may just be a coincidence but seth made a post in
this thread at 1 PM today where the topic was about whether aero helmets save time in triathlons. I posted a couple of pics...and I guess in his opinion, I am too fat to own the equipment that I do...although he didn't say it directly in the thread. Instead he came over to the road forum a few minutes later and started this.
Seth, for the record. I recommitted to fitness in 2004 after about 10 years of doing nothing (and I'm not proud of that at all). I have gotten faster and thinner through training (i.e. logging over 6,000 miles) and I purchased my $2,500 tri bike because I committed to doing a Half Ironman in June of this year (which I completed). In this case, the bike does make a difference as my average speed is 1.5 mph faster on my tri bike than my roadie due to a better aero position that I could not achieve by just putting clip-ons on my road bike. Over the course of a 56-mile bike leg, that adds up to 13-15 minutes of time savings not to mention the benefits you realize in the run by not working as hard on the bike.
By the way, if you think I'm slow based on looking at pictures of me, bring your bike out my way and see if you can drop me.
