First off, I don't care what people are riding, they're out riding and thats a good thing. The (1) guy obviously was riding with another rider who had his bars in the normal position, so the didn't know any better thing doesn't hold a lot of water. As far as comfortable, I really can't see how it could be other than giving a more upright position. The hand position and ease of shifting can't be very good. The other, it was mostly just plain unexpected. And rather ingenious really. Just took me by surprise.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but many people use them to attach other things to their bike...

Also, are you still liking your Take Offs? I liked mine the one ride I rode with them before deciding to scrap the twisted frame... I may use them again on another project over the winter.
Hahaha... yeah, I do plan to attach something to that. 2x 20W Halogen light housings to be specific. I'd originally posted that picture in the C&V "where'd you ride today" thread with a different caption.

I like my Kelly Takeoffs! I ride from the tops a fair bit on this bike when just cuising along. Shifting from the tops when in the middle of the 6sp freewheel is right at my finger tips. Works great. Lecterman has a set of Takeoffs on his Centurion Ironman, who recommended them to me.
