Deore LX Mega 9s?

The 9s LX Mega line, as far as I can tell, is not being made anymore, and came OEM on some of the older Rockhoppers. I got ahold of an older Rockhopper, but it needs a new right hand Mega-9 shifter. The left is still in perfect shape.

I am wondering whether or not these are decent shifters compared to the newer standard integrated brake/shifter Deore 530's out there now. In comparison, is it worth just picking up and old Mega for replacement, or would it be a better idea to just get a new set of Deore integrated shifters and replace both sides?

What would be an equivalent modern replacement for the old Megas?

Just thought I'd get your opinion.
