If the ascent is steep enough so you will need to dismount and carry, then it's best to start your dismount early as you head down the slope.

Step off running well before the bottom of the curve, so you give yourself enough room to slow down and make the corner without over-shooting it. Otherwise, you lose a whole hell of a lot of time and momentum by braking, dismounting, travelling too far down the slope, and then having to climb back up again.

This is one case in which having the skills to dismount and remount from either side of the bike really comes in handy.
