Isn't there a bike path in Solona Beach or Encinitas that runs parallel to the coast highway? I see it going through there, and the _ONLY_ people I see on it are people on hybrids and mountain bikes that tool along at 10-12mph. Almost all the roadies and anyone running 15-25 through there is on the road. Being forced to cross a highway to use a crowded bike path and then recross at the other end makes no sense to me. Back home there are really nice rail-trail conversions, and there's a really nice rail-trail on Coronado strand. I have to agree with HH, putting a bike path along a 25mph street is basically dumb and a waste of taxpayers dollars. If it is a bike path, expect cyclists to hit bike speeds, which for some is 25+ and if there's even the slight hint of a downhill, can exceed 30.
Right now I'm dealing with Santee and a bike lane on Mast blvd next to parked cars. 38" of bike lane, 9ft of 40mph lane to the left, and parked cars to the right. People seem to have an issue with me taking the lane for the few blocks of parked cars. Lots of horns getting honked there.
