OK, speaking of Fuji's then: They have three bikes that I might be interested in: the Team Carbon, the Professional Carbon (the comfort frame), and the Roubaix AL/carbon hybrid. Each is available in a range of builds from 20lb budget to 15lb spendy, but the roubaix can be bought really light for a lot less than the others.
I expected when I went to look for bikes, that the Team frame would be very stiff and have a very aggressive geometry (razor sharp, unforgiving, twitchy, responsive) and the Roubaix would be more stable, supple, and agreeable. Having driven, ridden and raced lots of stuff with wheels (and some without), I know my own personal tendencies: I like it fast, aggressive, and don't expect my equipment to be forgiving of my shortcomings. And I'm not sure thats changed much as I've gotten older.
I think I'd be satisfied with either of them... but experience has taught me that I'm hard on equipment and usually end up wanting better equipment than I buy when i'm trying to save money. Motorcycles, computers, cameras... it always goes the same way. I don't need the "best"... but I surely will make good use of "good" gear, and with the exception of computers, good equipment lasts a long long time.
From what I'm hearing, buying a fuji won't be a mistake, especially a high end one. It's not a race bike, but I'm not planning on racing, just on taking aggressive long rides. And there are some 2006 models left floating around with good discounts. And if I don't find the right 2006 I won't cry too bad about paying retail for the right 2007 rather than buy the wrong size or model 2006.
So... Team Carbon or Roubaix? Suggestions?
