I rode the Big Dam century today also. It was a 7:30 am start and it was in the high 60's at the start. Finishing temp was pushing 90 degrees.
Rest stops were about every 18 miles and were really well done. Well stocked with bananas, pickles, Carb-boom gels, clif bars, gatorade and water. They were very well staffed with lots of friendly folks. My only complaint was that the stop in Mayflower must of run their water through old hoses...it made the water and the gatorade taste nasty!
The most impressive thing about this ride was the support of law enforcement at every intersection over the 100 miles. I never saw any cyclist stop at red lights...no matter how many cars were waiting, the police would step into the intersection, stop traffic and wave the cyclists through. Top notch.
I logged 105.2 miles with a time of 6:15. This was my second century, the HH100 being the first earlier this year. My riding buddy, unfortunately, ended up being ill but stil toughed out 50 miles. The second half of the ride I hooked up with two guys, Robert and Jeff, and we had a great time together. Like every century, the last 20 miles were pretty painful. Butt, feet, shoulders all were feeling the strain...but no cramping or nuitrition issues. Hydrated well after waking up and used Endurolytes every hour during the ride.
The thing that sucked the worst was that after riding 100 miles, I went back to my buddy's house and had to box up my bike so I could ship it back home to Austin. That was really tough. Everything hurt.
Nice job Little Rock!
